Why do they call it a whistle-stop?

Ever wondered why it’s referred to as a “whistle stop”? Well, let’s dive into the history behind this term. Back in the day, when trains were chugging along to their destinations, they would give out a loud toot from their steam whistles as they neared a small station. This toot served as a signal to the folks at the station that the train was about to make a stop. This way, the train depot attendants could be ready for the train’s arrival. So, essentially, a “whistle stop” got its name from this practice of trains announcing their approach with a whistle blast. Cool, right?”
